Parents Sharing Custody Should Finalize Christmas Access As Soon as Possible

Parents Sharing Custody Should Finalize Christmas Access As Soon as Possible

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday 13th of December 2022

“In the best interests of your children, parents sharing access and custody should make sure their Christmas arrangements are agreed upon in advance.” Damien Peelo, CEO of Treoir stated.

With Christmas Day falling on a weekend this year, it’s especially important parents sharing custody talk to each other as soon as possible about their arrangements during the Christmas holidays to avoid any unnecessary confusion or tension.

“We absolutely appreciate and understand that both parents and their extended families want to be involved in their children’s Christmas.

“Children will know if parents are in conflict over the arrangements. This can create feelings of apprehension or guilt for the child when both parents want their child to enjoy themselves. In order to avoid this, as well as any additional pressure on the parents, Treoir recommends that parents try to come to agreements as soon as possible.”

“As much as possible, work together with the other parent and be open to finding compromises.”

“For example, if one parent won’t be able to see the child on Christmas Day – for whatever reason – try and agree that the child will call them at a set time or see them another day over the holidays.”

“Children will want to spend time during Christmas with everyone important in their lives. So once parents have come to an agreement, they should speak to the children together about the arrangements. This will reduce any anxiety the children might be having. Everyone in the family is on the same page will hopefully ensure that it’s a fun, relaxing break for everyone. Remember, children will enjoy opening their presents throughout the Christmas season, all the excitement doesn’t have to be on the 25th.

From everyone at Treoir, we hope you enjoy your Christmas break!
